We are mainly a family run business with no outside investors with over 40 years of experience between us. Now being third generation we decided to move with the times and become a young fresh online designer company with traditional family values.
80 YEARS EYE-CARE TO ARCHWAY
The husband and wife team of S. Douglas and L. Tobin began their careers as Optometrists (i.e. Opthalmic Opticians) in 1934 and they opened this practice as L. Tobin in Archway Central Hall, soon after the completion of the building in 1936. A second practice was opened in Archway Roda in 1946, named S. Douglas.
The two practices became well known throughout the district an in 1950 Leslie A. Todd joined the full-time staff. In 1959 Mr. and Mrs. Douglas’ elder son Gregory Douglas entered the practice and both be and Mr. Todd have been familiar faces to patients ever since.
During the 1960s and 1970s both practices were modernised and equipment is constantly being renewed to keep up with technological developments.
In 1981 the two practices were joined together at the present address and the name was altered to DOUGLAS & TOBIN. We are proud of the continuity of our history and we hope to be still serving Archway in a further 80 Years – albeit with a different generation of the family in attendance!
