On the catwalks and on the red carpet, sunglasses seem to be getting bigger and bigger. Some of the most popular designer sunglasses of the moment seem to be almost comically large, but whopping frames can also look quite chic. After all, Audrey Hepburn – the epitome of elegance and chic – shot to fame in a pair of enormous black sunglasses in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

If you’re shopping for a new pair of sunglasses, you might need some help finding the balance between looking fashionable in your oversized frames and looking just a bit silly. Here are a few tips:

1. Keep the style subtle. The size of your sunglasses is bold enough, so unless you really want to make a statement, choose a pair of sunglasses in a shade of black or brown, without much embellishment or detailing.

2. Wear with confidence. Huge sunglasses are glamorous and indulgent, and they’re also quite statement-making, so you’ll need the right attitude to pull off the look. It’s a great excuse to bring out your inner diva!

3. Choose the right pair for your face shape. For example, a pair of round Religion designer frames will flatter a narrow or oblong face shape, whilst wayfarers with a defined brow line are great for wider faces or those with a wide forehead. Classic square sunglasses will add definition to delicate face shapes, whilst softly rounded Jackie O style frames tend to suit most face shapes.
