Celebrities including Harry Potter, Denzel Washington, Jonny Depp and Ralph Lauren have all worn glasses made by the UK’s only remaining spectacle factory, the Alpha Works in East London.

The machines, which were brought over from Germany in the 1930’s are still used today and according to reports it can take new staff up to two years to learn to operate the antique machinery completely.

The company won the NHS contract until the 1980’s when prescription glasses were de-regulated.

It’s most famous spectacle style is the classic round-eyed, made famous after being worn by John Lennon and later Harry Potter.

These specs are sold on Saville Row, if you cannot afford those but would like have a similar style but for a fraction of the price check out our geek chic range specifically the round-eyed style which come in various colours and are on offer right now. Check them out here.
