When buying specs, the one thing we all have to consider is our skin tone, hair colour and specs frame colour – only when you have taken all of this into consideration can you really start to make a decision about the type of glasses that will suit you.

We have produced a guide to help you understand the right frame colour for you – this, of course, is simply a guide and is not the hard and fast rules – what works for one person will not necessarily work for all.

Below is a simple guide – for more in-depth discussion about colour and frames then go to our dedicated guide here.

Blondes – lightweight metal frames work well with fair-skinned blondes. Chose warm colours to add warmth and avoid clear or blue and green cold colours. Tortoiseshell and gold work well for blondes.

Auburn – gold, copper, bronze, reds, tortoiseshell and browns all work well.Cold colours, blues and greens will provide contrast.

Light Brown – warm tones gold, copper, bronze and tortoiseshell work well, cooler colours like silver, blue, green or gunmetal can be flattering.

Dark brown/Black – silver, gold or clear frames work well. Burgundy, brown are also a hit – but avoid black frames as they will look too heavy. Metallics work well as do amber colours.

Silver/Grey – clear crystal, grey silver and metallic frames all compliment this hair colour – take care with blues or greens.
